HIGHWAY 13/7, LAOS
It’s approximately 800 road kilometers from Chiang Mai to Nong Khai and the Lao border, which takes about eleven hours on a good day. The trip from Vientiane to Phonsavan is 435km and takes… about eleven hours. The road is sealed and almost free of potholes, something that’s not to be taken for granted in a country where only 40% of the highways are paved, but no matter how nice the asphalt is you still have to drive over these:

And then, of course, the bus breaks and everybody gets out to watch one guy try and fix it.
