MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA
One of Medellin’s metro lines goes straight through the bottom of the valley, but the other two service areas way up on the sides of the mountains. It’s too steep for a traditional train and funiculars look ridiculous, so Medellín’s solution was to build cable cars.
The lines aren’t so far off the ground, but the view is amazing. Through some weird acoustic property of the slums beneath them you can hear the music, chatter, kids screaming and couples fighting like you’re right there in the houses with them.

Funiculars. So that’s what those are called. Sounds more like these: http://snarkerati.com/movie-news/files/2009/07/viewmaster.jpg
