JORETHANG -> YUKSOM, SIKKIM, INDIA
Sorry about the hiatus, things have been a little scattered. Let’s go back to Sikkim, shall we?
Jorethang isn’t a big town, but it’s still the main transit point through West Sikkim and has a lot of restaurants, hotels and other amenities. As soon as you leave though, you’re in the boonies. The road to Yuksom is serviced by only one jeep a day and climbs up through the Himalayas for about six hours, mostly along nightmarish drops into ravines you can’t see the bottom of. In most parts, cars have to slow to a stop to negotiate a way around each other while all the passengers throw up out the window.
Then you get to Yuksom and things start to get interesting, but we’ll save that for Wednesday.

You should sneak into Bhutan….just to say hi.
Also, on a random note: have you ever heard of the Sentinelese? They’re one of the last ‘uncontacted’ tribes, hidden away on an Andaman island, who thwart all attempts to reach them by firing arrows at whatever helicopters or boats come close. As far as I know, the Indian government got exasperated and gave up trying to make contact a few years ago. I was reading about them the other day and thought, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be an awesome adventure to try and get on that island? Although you’d need someone pretty crazy to try…’
Food for thought.
(ps I’ve renamed the blog from fever dreaming > anywhere but home, & the URL has changed accordingly. heads up
So, did you throw up out the window?… The journey sounds harrowing!
what percentage of people had amazing mustaches and did you grow one?
The wait at Jorethang seems interminable. After all, how many momos and how many glasses of drink can keep u from getting impatient? Can’t wait to get going to Yuksom. Strike in siliguri…so left at the mercy of these jeeps
